A passionate and versatile quintet band, One Up has since performed in various clubs and hotel lounges nationwide, such as Grand Dorsett Labuan, Concorde Kuala Lumpur, One World Petaling Jaya and Promenade Kota Kinabalu before finally settling down at Monkey B@r early this year.

Headed by Keyboardist Arnel and accompanied by Guitarist R-Jay plus vocalists Rose, Janice, and Marjie, One Up plays a wide range of repertoires from Retro to Top 40’s, R & B, Hip Hop and not forgetting Country, Jazz, Latin and Rock & Roll tunes.  Nevertheless, their forte lies in R & B and Ballads, excelling in songs such as ‘Summer Wind’ by Frank Sinatra, ‘I Got A Feeling’ and ‘Bebot’ by the Black Eye Pees, ‘Poker Face’ by Lady Gaga, ‘Super Bass’ by Nicki Minaj and ‘Stereo Hearts’ by Gym Class Hereos and Adam Levine. The group cites Rihanna, Shakira, Dixie Chicks, Whitney Houston, Jessie J, Frank Sinatra as well as groups like Black Eyed Peas and Earth, Wind and Fire as their favourites artistes.

Located at Level 10, Monkey B@r is the happening fun pub in town, offering great live entertainment in a vibrant setting. JOHOR FOOD & CULTURAL PROMOTION IN CONJUNCTION WITH CITRAWARNA – COLOURS OF 1MALAYSIA

It’s that time of the year again for locals and tourists to witness the best of Malaysia’s rich cultures, beautiful and intricate crafts as well as glorious cuisine. Experience the vibrant colourful parades, cultural and traditional performances, exhibitions and not forgetting sampling of authentic and mouthwatering local delicacies of various ethnic groups held nationwide.

‘Jom Makan Besor’ (Johorean slang for Let’s have a big feast) at Coffee House, Sunway Putra Hotel Kuala Lumpur as the Hotel features the best of Johor’s culinary and cultural delights. Available from 18 May to 3 June 2012, the highlight of the festival will be the Buffet Lunch and Dinner, priced at RM59.00++ and RM80.00++ respectively.

 

Johor, known as "The Southern Gateway to Malaysia" is one of the most developed states in Malaysia. The state is known for eco-tourism, agro-tourism and sports-tourism and also the state capital and hub for businesses, transportation and entertainment.

Travel on a gastronomic journey with a splendid array of Johorean favourites ranging from a wide selection of rice, chicken, beef, mutton, soup, noodles and desserts. Cuisines from Johor are influenced by Arabs and cultures of Maritime South East Asia (Phillipines, Brunei, Singapore, East Timor, Indonesia & Malaysia). Some of the yummy dishes served include our famous best-selling Nasi Beriyani Gam - special rice cooked with spices and eaten with beef, chicken or mutton, Nasi Ambang – turmeric rice (nasi kunyit) surrounded with portions of acar rampai, ayam goreng berempah, rendang daging, sambal goreng tempe, salted fish and sambal belacan served on a piece of banana leaf in nyiru (winnowing basket), Ayam Kuzi, Ayam Kerutup, Daging Bahmia, Otak-Otak Gelang Patah, Singgang Ikan Tongkol Masak Pedas and Telur Pindang.

Diners can also opt for one of the favourite items, Laksa Johor – flaked fish cooked in fresh coconut milk infused with spices and served with cucumber and onion slices, bean sprouts, lime, mint leaves, daun kesum and dried shrimp paste over blanched spaghetti. This is definitely not to be missed! Additionally there are also other mouth-watering delights such as Lontong with condiments, Mee Rebus Muar and Mee Bandung – a concoction of thick yet delicious gravy served with yellow noodles, eggs and tomatoes.

Dessert is a must! Do make some room for Malaysia’s favourite dessert originated from Johor, the Ice Kacang or famously known as ABC (‘Air Batu Campur’), luscious Pisang Salai – smoked sweet banana and Ubi Kayu Rebus Gula Melaka – boiled tapioca in palm sugar syrup. Other traditional kuihs, coupled with freshly cut fruits, French pastries, puddings, ice creams, cookies and cakes of different kinds are also served at the dessert counter.

The above Johorean specialties will be in addition to our regular buffet lunch and dinner spread.

While enjoying a sumptuous meal, diners will be treated to famous Johorean enchanting cultural performances which consist of joget, zapin, medley of Johor folk songs and tarian Kuda Kepang – a traditional dance usually performed by nine dancers who are seated astride a mock horse, accompanied by a percussion ensemble of drums, gong and angklung. These dances will be performed daily during dinnertime.

There will also be display and sale of ‘Made in Johor’ handicrafts at the Hotel’s lobby atrium. Items such as kompang, rebana and handmade tudung saji (a type of food cover made of bamboo split and rattan) are available for viewing as well as for sale.
